TypeMyworDz

Free online and Windows audio recorder

Record interviews, meetings or voice notes in your browser, install the browser recorder on your phone, or download the standalone TypeScribe (v2.0) Windows recorder and player. The Windows app needs no installation, saves compact MP3 audio as you record, remembers your recording name (TMWZ Audio by default), and offers customizable recording and playback shortcuts that work while minimized. Press "Transcribe on TypeMyworDz" and a panel opens on the right of the window where you sign in and transcribe the audio you recorded or loaded, without leaving the app. The window can be maximized and resized, a Hide button above the divider switches TypeScribe off (recording, playback and shortcuts included) to give your transcript the full view, and Show brings it back, and "Type Mini" shrinks TypeScribe to a small player you can drag anywhere while you start a fresh transcript.

How it works

  1. Use the browser recorder, add it to your phone home screen, or download and open the Windows app, TypeScribe (v2.0).
  2. Press Record or use your chosen global shortcut; pause and resume when needed, use Mark to flag an important moment, play your take back or drop one MP3, WAV or M4A file into the window; use the five-second rewind and forward buttons, seeking, volume, and speed up to 300%.
  3. Stop and save your file, then upload it to TypeMyworDz for an editable transcript.

Questions

Is the Windows voice recorder free?

Yes. TypeScribe v2.0 (formerly TypeMyworDz Recorder) is free to download. It is a single portable Windows program with no installer and no account requirement.

Does the Windows recorder need installation?

No. Download the .exe file and double-click it. It runs on Windows 10 and 11. The download page shows the current version and SHA-256 checksum.

What audio quality and file size does it use?

The Windows app records MP3 at 32 kbps by default to keep spoken audio compact. You can choose 48, 64, 96 or 128 kbps, or lossless WAV, in Settings.

Will a crash erase my recording?

The Windows recorder writes audio as it goes. The browser recorder also auto-saves on your device so you can recover a recent take. Recordings stay on your device unless you choose to upload them.

Can I use the recorder on my phone?

Yes. Open the browser recorder on your phone and use Install or Add to Home Screen to keep it handy.

Can it skip long silences?

Yes. Turn on Skip long silences in the Windows app Settings, or choose Trim silences in the browser audio tools where available.

Can I customize the Windows record/stop shortcut?

Yes. In Settings, choose Change, press the key or combination you want, then confirm. Ctrl+Shift+R is the record/stop default. Playback shortcuts, including the five-second forward action (Ctrl+Right by default), can also be customized and work while minimized. Single-key shortcuts may take over that key in other apps; Tab can also interfere with normal focus navigation.

Does the Windows recorder remember my filename?

Yes. It starts with TMWZ Audio, and your edited recording name is saved for the current Windows user and restored when you reopen the app.
